HSMP Visa: UK Highly Skilled Migrant Programme
The UK Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP Visa) is a points based visa allowing the holder of this work permit to live and work in the UK in any capacity, such as being employed, starting a business or being self-employed. HSMP is one of the most popular UK visas for highly skilled migrants seeking to work in the UK with a route to settlement.
Applicants must achieve a score of 75 points and prove that they have sufficient English language skills. Points are awarded for age, education, earnings and UK experience. Since the changes to HSMP made in November 2006, applicants without a degree that is at least equivalent to a UK Bachelor degree cannot qualify for HSMP.
It is anticipated that HSMP will be replaced some time in early 2008 with the new Tier 1 Visa as part of the roll-out of the new UK Points Based System.
