28 October 2008

Today Phil Woolas, Minister of State for borders and immigration, announced the go-live date for tiers 2 and 5 of the points-based system.

Tier 2, relating to skilled workers, replaces the current work permit scheme. Tier 5 covers temporary workers entering the United Kingdom for a short period. We have already implemented tier 1 of points-based system which covers the highly skilled.

When tiers 2 and 5 open to applications, many existing work-based schemes will close.

What has that got to do with this topic?

You should go to the Tier 1 section of the forum (this is the new name for HSMP). There you will find information, guidance and advice.
