17 June 2009

Three people from London have been charged with attempting to smuggle approximately 10 kg of cocaine into the United Kingdom through the United Kingdom controlled zone in Coquelles France.

Selami Selimi of Cricklewood Lane, London, NW2, Bashkin Recica and Fiknete Jusufi both of Tiverton Road, London N15 were arrested by officers from the UK Border Agency after the discovery of the drugs on 13 June 2009.

The drugs, which have an estimated street value of approximately £400,000, were found in a vehicle being driven by Mr Recica.

The case was passed to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to continue investigations.

Recica & Selimi have been remanded in custody, Jusufi was allowed bail and they will next appear before Dover Magistrates on 18 June 2009.

Georgina Myles, HMRC Dover spokesman said:

'Our investigators, and their UK Border Agency colleagues, are determined to stop drugs entering the United Kingdom and reduce the associated harm to our communities. Anyone with information relating to smuggled goods should contact Customs' 24 hour hotline on 0800 59 5000'.
